What is the meaning of the korean word "mianhae"? The korean word "mianhae" which is written in hangul as "미안해" is used to say "I'm sorry" in an informal manner. So if you want to say "I'm sorry" to people of the same age as you or younger than you, you can use "mianhae". If you want to say "I'm sorry" to people that are close to you but are older than you, you can add "yo" to "mianhae" which makes it "mianhaeyo (미안해요)" - this is a polite way of saying "I'm sorry".
